Cross-Registration Procedures

Bethany Theological Seminary and Earlham School of Religion.

Cross-Registration Procedures

Earlham School of Religion and Bethany Theological Seminary have a cross-registration agreement with United Theological Seminary, Christian Theological Seminary, Payne Theological Seminary, and the graduate program in Religious Studies at the University of Dayton. Students enrolled in any of these programs are able to register for courses at any of the other institutions. The tuition and billing for cross-registered courses is the same as any other course taken at the student's home institution.

To register for a class at United Theological Seminary, Christian Theological Seminary, Payne Theological Seminary, or University of Dayton, fill out a cross-registration form and submit it with your registration or add/drop card. cross-registration forms are brightly colored forms. Look for cross-registration forms in the Academic Services workroom. Before you submit a cross-registration form, be sure to review the curricular limitations outlined below.

Payne Theological Seminary

In addition, ESR has a cross registration agreement with Carolina Evangelical Divinity School in North Carolina.

Both ESR and Bethany limit the courses that can be taken from outside institutions. Please read the limitations for your school listed below:

BETHANY

Bethany limits the total number of credits that can be taken through cross-registration (or transfer), and Bethany specifies certain courses that must be taken at Bethany.

  1. Credit Limits:

    Maximum Cross-Registration (or Transfer) Credits
    Master of Divinity No more than 54 of the 81 required credits
    Master of Arts No more than 12 of the 54 required credits, no more than 6 per semester.
    C.A.T.S. No more than 3 of the 18 required credits
  2. Bethany students must take the following courses at Bethany:

    Bethany Master of Divinity Students:
    1. Introduction to New Testament
    2. Introduction to Theological Reflection
    3. Exegeting the Call and Culture of Ministry
    4. Brethren Beliefs and Practices OR History of the Church of the Brethren
    5. Ministry Formation (2 semesters)
    6. M.Div Review

    Bethany Master of Arts Students:
    1. At least 3 of the 9 required hours in the Biblical Foundations of the Church
    2. At least 3 of the 9 required hours in the Life and Faith of the Church
    3. At least 3 of the 6 required hours in the Ministries of the Church
    4. MA Seminar (2 semesters)
    5. Thesis

    Bethany C.A.T.S. Students, Richmond Campus Program:
      At least 15 of the 18 semester hours required to complete the C.A.T.S. program must be fulfilled at Bethany's Richmond campus.

    Bethany C.A.T.S. Students, SVS Campus Program:
      At least 3 of the 18 semester hours required to complete the C.A.T.S. program must be fulfilled at Bethany's Richmond campus.

EARLHAM SCHOOL OF RELIGION

ESR students may take courses at United, CTS, Payne, and UD as electives in their programs at ESR. However, ESR expects students to take all required courses at ESR.
